Learning to Live… Through Jesus, Our Neighbours and Each Other

In April of this year Mennonite Church Sask began a year-long process called Refresh, Refocus, Renew to ask ourselves what it means to be the church at this time and in this place.  Three retreat/focus sessions during the next twelve months will help us to discern our purpose and mission.

In our first weekend together, Betty Pries (our spiritual leader for this process) told us that the journey of renewal leads us through a season of prayer.  We were (are) invited, over the next four months, to enter a season of prayer together.  To guide our prayers we are asking God to open our hearts to receive him, to open us to God’s healing, and to open ourselves to God’s future.  Along with these prayers we have been given three questions:  Lord, what are calling us to embrace?  Lord, what are calling us to let go of?  Lord, what are you calling us to live into?

We are invited, as we pray, to journal, reflect, and take note of what you hear.  At our next session, September 15-16 at Wildwood MC, we will share, listen to God and each other and trust that God will speak into our life together.

This Sunday, our focus will be on prayer based on Ephesians 3.14-21.  In this wonderful and moving prayer for the church Paul makes several very important points:

One, the church is empowered by God’s indwelling Spirit.

Two, the church’s foundation is love, a love that is breathtaking in its comprehensiveness and inclusiveness.

Three, God’s power ‘at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can as ask or imagine!’ (3.20)

Join us at 10:00 a.m. for worship as we share in story, song, and prayer.  May we know God’s power, presence, and purpose for our lives, as individuals and as a community of faith, as we go forward into God’s good future.
