December 31stJesus is where he finds you!
‘The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.’ (Mark 1.1)
This week we begin a new worship series entitled: Jesus is where he finds you! based on readings from the Gospel of Mark. A commentator once called Mark ‘the master of surprise.’ (Donald Juel). Mark does not tell us what to think but rather shows us, especially in the first eight chapters, Jesus in action. In Mark’s account of Jesus’ life and ministry we are continually ‘surprised’ as Jesus acts in ways that keep us off balance. This Jesus does not sit still very long but is always pressing forward, meeting new people and new situations with surprising questions, nimble challenges, and profound moments of grace. In this series we will be focussing on stories from the first half of Mark’s gospel.
In today’s story we meet Jesus, the ‘present one’ who meets us where faith is challenged by the storms of life.

PRAYER: O Lord, we beseech you to deliver us from the fear of the unknown future, from fear of failure, from fear of poverty, from fear of sickness and pain, from fear of age, and from fear of death. Help us, O Father, by your grace to love and fear you only. Fill our hearts with cheerful courage and loving trust in you; through our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. Amen
