Five Minutes on Friday #43

ONE GOOD POEM

The Place Where We are Right

From the place where we are right
Flowers will never grow
In the spring.

The place where we are right
Is hard and trampled
Like a yard.

But doubts and loves
Dig up the world
Like a mole, a plow.
And a whisper will be heard in the place
Where the ruined
House once stood.        [Yehudi Amichai]

SUNDAY – Covenanting Sunday

Scripture:    2 Timothy 1.1-14

This Sunday we will invite the commitment of those participating in the life of this congregation.  We wish to renew our common understanding of who we are, and what we are called to do.  We understand this to be a covenant – a commitment between each other and with God – that will guide our lives as individuals and as a congregation.

  • We are Anabaptist Mennonite Christians called to peace-making, nurtured through worship and small groups, committed to caring for one another, and practicing believer’s baptism.
  • We encourage the broad sharing of gifts for the building up of the body of Christ.
  • We understand our calling to participate in God’s mission in the world, both in word and in deed.
  • Vision statement: Learning to live in relationship with Jesus, our neighbours, and each other.

FOR REFLECTION

Which family members have been key in your own spiritual development (v.5)?

In what areas are you gifted?  How can you share these gifts?

Reflect on vs.7:

‘For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.’
